The Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah is a Swiss-inspired luxury resort nestled in Utah’s beautiful Wasatch mountains. It’s a fun year-round resort for families or for romantic getaways. My family stayed at Zermatt Resort during a winter weekend trip to Heber Valley. It was our base for a fun-filled itinerary that included snow tubing, a sleigh ride, ice skating and swimming in Midway’s famous Crater.
Zermatt is an excellent choice for summer vacations as well. The cool mountain air of the Heber Valley feels wonderful in July and August. Warm-weather family activities to choose from include fly fishing and Midway’s Swiss Days. Spring and fall are fun too, and are a good time to find lower rates. The fall leaves are beautiful in late September and early October. Check the Zermatt’s website for more deals, like the family Movie and Pizza Night package.
Here are more details about our stay at the Zermatt Resort in Midway, Utah.
If I had known we’d be given the Honeymoon Suite, I would have found my kids a sitter for the weekend! I was worried that we’d have to ask for a different room because there was just one king bed, but then we found the pull-out couch for my daughter. My 8-year-old son usually prefers to sleep on the floor anyway, so all’s well that ends well. The kids were amused to see a jetted tub next to the bed, and had fun soaking in it (in swimsuits) after our dip at the Homestead Crater.
The Honeymoon Suite, and those next to it have heated balconies and a lovely view of the front of the resort. We appreciated the big four-poster bed and the elegant, old world furnishings.
Zermatt has indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs. The February weekend we were there was an unseasonably warm 65 degrees (F), and my family tried both the indoor and outdoor pools. There is a swim-through lane connecting one to the other, and my children thought that was really fun.
The indoor hot tub is large, and has a waterfall! There is comfortable seating and lounge chairs both indoor and outdoors, where I watched the kids play and caught up on some reading.
The only disappointment from our experience at the pool – and our entire stay at Zermatt – was that the pool towels had just run out when we arrived. I called the front desk twice during our two-hour swim, as did other guests, and the towels were never replenished. We finally had to beg a few room towels from one of the housekeepers.
In addition to the pools, the Zermatt offers a nice variety of complimentary amenities and activities. They include:
- European-inspired Spa
- Large fitness room, with dry sauna and steam room
- Water aerobics and yoga classes
- Valet parking
- Shuttle service to Park City, and anywhere within 5 miles
- Family S’Mores packet
- Free Fudge Sample at The Homestead
- Coffee and hot cider in lobby
- Board games
- Pool table
Additional seasonal activities include (for a fee):
- Putt Putt Golf
- European carousel
The Zermatt Resort has two on-site restaurants and a bakery/cafe. We tried the cafe, Bakerei and Eis for breakfast one morning and found a tempting assortment of pastries, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, yogurt parfait and oatmeal. Come back at lunch time for soups, sandwiches and gelato.
We also enjoyed the decadent Sunday brunch at Z’s Steak and Chop Haus. There, we enjoyed a fantastic buffet with a fruit crepe and omelette bar, cold salmon, local and imported cheeses, fresh fruit, hot eggs, sausages and bacon, and beautiful baskets of muffins, scones and croissants from Bakerei and Eis.
With its abundant amenities, romantic ambience, and proximity to a wide variety of activities, it’s not surprising that the Zermatt Resort is a popular year-round destination for romantic getaways, family vacations and outdoor adventure.
Disclosure: Our stay at Zermatt Resort was complimentary for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
