Why stay at the Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn?
For many families the reason is just one word: Disneyland! Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn is just one mile from Disneyland and it offers plenty of family-friendly amenities. My family stayed here during a fantastic Halloween-themed Disneyland trip.
Here's what you can expect at the Hilton Garden Inn in Anaheim/Garden Grove:
Rooms
We stayed at the Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn for five nights and it was a comfortable base for my family of four. The room wasn't large, but we weren't there much, and it had practically everything on our list of family hotel must-haves, including:
- Queen-size beds (not doubles)
- Refrigerator
- Microwave
- Reliable Wi-Fi (sign up for Hilton HHonors to get it free)
- Flat-screen TV with family-friendly channels
- Full-size closet for storage
The air conditioning was a little loud, but my husband sleeps better with white noise, so that was a positive for us.
Do you have trouble keeping track of all the chargers and finding outlets for your family electronics in a hotel room? I do! So, I was a little too excited to find charging cords for multiple devices plugged into the phone on the bedside table. We found connectors to charge our iPhone 4, iPhone 6 and Kindle Fire at the same time.
I appreciate when hotels provide laundry facilities for guest use, and the Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn made it easier for me to pack light on this trip. It has two coin operated washers and dryers. There were no detergent dispensers, but I came prepared with detergent pods and quarters ($3 per load), so it was easy to do a couple of loads during our trip.
Convenient Location
I really liked the location of the Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn. It was close to Disneyland, but far enough away to avoid the worst of the park traffic. Target is across the street and another supermarket is not much farther. Restaurants are within walking distance.
It's a toss up whether we loved Disneyland or our day at Newport Beach more. Seriously, we've never had such a great day at the beach. We packed towels, chairs, umbrella and a picnic and spent hours playing in the waves, digging in the sand, and enjoying good beach reads. Newport, Laguna and Huntington Beaches are all located within about 30 minutes' drive of the hotel.
Shuttle
The Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn shares a Disneyland shuttle and a parking lot with two hotels on the same block. For my family of four, it was less expensive and more convenient to take the shuttle than to park our own car at Disneyland. Shuttle passes are sold at the front desk. Multi-day passes are less expensive per day than single day passes. The shuttle arrives at the hotels and the park every 30 minutes, and multiple shuttles may arrive at peak times. Shuttles were crowded during our stay, so we got in line 10-15 minutes early to be sure to get a seat.
Dining
The Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn has an on-site restaurant and room service serving breakfast and dinner each day. Kids under 12 eat breakfast free with a paying adult. If you book through Get Away Today, you'll get a discount coupon as well.
We hit Disneyland early each morning, so we stocked our in-room refrigerator with quick and inexpensive breakfasts and snacks from Target across the street. For lunch or dinner, there are several familiar chains nearby. Buca di Beppo is next door. Red Robin and Outback are across the street. Taco Bell, Del Taco, Pizza Hut and other fast food options are also handy.
The Pool
The weather was hot during our October visit, and the pool was our first stop after checking in to the Anaheim Hilton Garden Inn. The pool was not very large, but it never was crowded, even though the hotel was sold out. The pool was not quite as clean as I would have liked, and the pool towels seemed to run out quickly. However, none of that bothered my kids and the pool was a welcome place to relax and play when we had a little time between Disneyland and the beach.
