There is something romantic about lighthouses. They are both visually and metaphorically appealing, and they are usually set among beautifully rugged scenery. As a Utah native, I didn’t see many lighthouses until I had a chance to spend some time on the coasts. In the mid-1990’s I lived in Long Beach, Washington for a short time. I considered myself lucky to frequently see not one, but two lighthouses.
My favorite lighthouse is North Head Lighthouse. It is situated south of Long Beach, not far from the mouth of the Columbia River. I took this photo in 2008, during our last family vacation in the Pacific Northwest. The first photo is my favorite Photoshop version of the original, which is shown below.
