Hi there,

It’s Kimberly with Get Away Today, here to keep you updated with all things Disneyland. With so many new changes, including the introduction of the MaxPass system, it can be hard to keep up with everything that’s happening at the resort. I’m here to give you five insider tips on how and when to use Disney MaxPass.

Disney MaxPass is an add-on option to your Disneyland ticket that allows you to reserve and redeem digital FASTPASS tickets from your mobile device. It also includes Disney PhotoPass which lets you download, save and share all of your PhotoPass images captured throughout the day. MaxPass is an opportunity to maximize your visit to The Happiest Place on Earth.

How much does MaxPass cost?

MaxPass costs $10 per person, per day. That can add up fast for a family, but it can certainly be worth it during the busier times of the year.

You can buy MaxPass for every day of your trip, or just one day. I recommend waiting to add MaxPass until you are actually on vacation. You can purchase your tickets and MaxPass together in advance through the official Disneyland website, but you’ll probably end up paying more than you need to.

Get Away Today sells Disneyland tickets for less than Disneyland’s official site. When you purchase our discount Disneyland tickets and wait until you arrive at the park to purchase MaxPass, you can make that decision day-by-day rather than having to purchase MaxPass for every day of your trip in advance.

How to use MaxPass

MaxPass is different than the regular FastPass system, so we get quite a few questions about it. However, the MaxPass system is simple to use and allows you to have everything right at your fingertips.

To use Disney MaxPass, download the Disneyland Resort App on your phone. Open the application and tap on the circular Mickey icon at the bottom of the screen. Next, sign in to the app with your Disney account. If you don’t already have one, no worries! You can easily sign up for one when prompted.

After you successfully sign in to your Disney account, enter your ticket information by clicking on the My Tickets option in the main menu. This will link your tickets directly to the Disneyland app. Once your ticket information has been entered, click on the Get FASTPASS option. You will then select all guests who want to use the Disney MaxPass feature and purchase it directly in the app. You can then make all of your FastPass selections throughout the day and enjoy all of your Disney PhotoPass downloads.

Set up your account and tickets in the Disneyland app before you arrive at the park. Mornings are precious at Disneyland, and you’ll want to spend that time having fun!

Have a MaxPass Strategy

One of the best features of MaxPass is being able to reserve Digital FastPasses in advance. Since you are paying an additional fee to for this feature, you will want to be strategic about what rides you reserve to get the best bang for your buck. Because of this, I recommend reserving the most popular attractions first.

Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Radiator Springs Racers are among the most sought-after rides in California Adventure, so if these rides are high on your list, reserve them first. In Disneyland, the top rides are Space Mountain, Indiana Jones Adventure and Star Tours. Reserving the top rides early will save you loads of time that you can later spend meeting favorite characters, watching parades, sampling Disney delicacies or shopping.

PhotoPass with MaxPass

Disneyland places photographers all over the park to help you get photos of your whole group in the most scenic spots and with your favorite characters. They put the photo on a PhotoPass card and you can pay for the photos you want to keep.

Another huge perk of MaxPass is that PhotoPass is included for each day that you purchase MaxPass. You get unlimited downloads, so you can share your memories with family and friends.

If you plan to buy Disney MaxPass option for just one day, plan to make the most of PhotoPass that day. Coordinate your family’s outfits. Get photos from every photographer you see. This is a great opportunity to get a photo for your next holiday card.

PhotoPass photos do expire, so be sure to download them during or soon after your trip. You can access the pictures through the Disneyland app with your 8-character attraction ID, located on the preview wall on your Disney account.

Is MaxPass worth it?

I think MaxPass is a good way to maximize your time at Disneyland. I’m not sure I would spend the money to use it every day of my vacation, but it’s definitely useful for busier times of the year. It can quickly pay for itself if you want all the PhotoPass pictures.

Remember that you can still use Disneyland’s Digital FASTPASS system for free. Learn more about Digital FASTPASS HERE. You can still skip the long lines and have a great time, but may spend more time running to FASTPASS kiosks instead of reserving them on your phone. Furthermore, the PhotoPass photographers will often take a photo for you with your camera as well as their professional cameras.
