It’s that time of year when we reflect on our wonderful family moments of the past year, and look forward to the future and all the possibilities it holds. All those experiences we shared in 2015 are paying off in lasting family memories now. These memories only become more valuable with time.

It’s nearly impossible to narrow the list to five each, but we did it! Here are our top ten family travel destinations of 2015.

What to expect on a whale watching trip with San Juan Excursions | tipsforfamilytrips.com

Whale watching in San Juan Islands

Whale watching in the San Juan Islands was a check on my bucket list in June. Our tour happened to fall on the day that two pods of orcas met for the first time in 2015, so we saw a lot more whales than typical. BONUS: It was my wedding anniversary!

Mickey's Halloween Party at Disneyland - a step-by-step guide for families from tipsforfamilytrips.com.

Mickey’s Halloween Party

My family returned to Disneyland for the first time in five years last October, and our children were the perfect ages to stay up late for Mickey’s Halloween Party. We all dressed in costume and stayed up late for rides, trick-or-treating, a parade and fireworks in the park. It was an extra-special Disneyland experience!

A review of the luxurious Montage Deer Valley in Utah for families|tipsforfamilytrips.com

Montage Deer Valley

We felt like royalty when we spent a fall weekend at Montage Deer Valley on the slopes of Deer Valley in Park City, Utah. We were delighted to find that this posh resort is as family-friendly as it is luxurious – though it would be pretty fantastic without the kids too.

Review of the Arizona Grand Resort and Spa for families | tipsforfamilytrips.com

Phoenix resorts

The resorts (and their swimming pools) were my family’s favorite part of our spring break vacation in Phoenix, Arizona and we cannot agree on which was better: The Wigwam or Arizona Grand. The Wigwam was sophisticated and relaxing – everything a luxury family resort should be. The Arizona Grand has an awesome water park! We’ll let you read the reviews and decide for yourself.

A review of snow tubing at Soldier Hollow from tipsforfamilytrips.com

Snow tubing at Soldier Hollow

In February, we escaped to Heber Valley for a weekend – not too far from our Utah home. We had a blast ice skating, swimming, sleigh riding and snow tubing in this alpine paradise. One of our best memories from this trip was snow tubing at Soldier Hollow, which was an Olympic cross country skiing venue in 2002.

Land of the Fjords: Tips for Planning a Trip to Norway | tipsforfamilytrips.comNorway

The highlight of my 2015 travel was a multi-generational trip to Norway to explore the land of my ancestors. We spent an amazing week traveling from Oslo to Bergen. I loved every day in Norway, but my favorite experience was renting a cottage on Sognefjord and seeing hundreds of waterfalls as we explored the fjords.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

The Outer Banks of North Carolina is our favorite family vacation, and we go most summers. A week at the beach with sun, sand, surfing, friends, Duck Donuts, tennis, and bike rides is the perfect way to relax and get away from it all.

New York City Girls Weekend

My oldest daughter had the amazing opportunity to play a violin solo with her high school orchestra at Carnegie Hall. I took my other teenage daughter with me to New York City for the weekend to enjoy the concert and explore New York City. We did a teenage food tour and loved frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity, exploring all the candy shops in Times Square, and being serenaded by the singing waitstaff at Ellen’s Stardust Diner.

Philadelphia's Historic SitesPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania

We spent a few days of our spring break in Philly. My kids were wary of seeing historical sights instead of relaxing at the beach for spring break, but we loved exploring Ben Franklin’s Philadelphia and learning more of our early American history. Highlights for us were pretzels at Reading Terminal Market, taking a Big Bus Tour around town, and playing at the Please Touch Museum.

See Wild Ponies at Assateague Island National Seashore | tipsforfamilytrips.com

Assateague Island National Seashore

We celebrated the last day of school by escaping to the beach at Assateague Island National Seashore in Maryland for a few days. We hoped to see the wild ponies that roam free on the beach, and they met us in the parking lot. We saw plenty of them while we played on the beach for two days.

Hi there! I am the founder of Tips for Family Trips. I am a married mom of two children, ages 10 and 12, living near Salt Lake City, Utah. We took our first child on a two-week road trip when she was four weeks old and we have been traveling as a family ever since. We love to get out of the house to see and do fun things, both far away and in our own neighborhood.

  2. I’ve been to a few of Katie’s but I really need to get out to the West Coast more. We did the CA coast in March. I have a feeling this summer will bring a big western road trip but still deciding.
