Ice skating is a classic winter sport, and it doesn't get much better than ice skating outdoors in a place as charming as Midway, Utah. Midway is arguably the most delightful small town in Utah. Its abundance of fun activities and cozy resorts make it an ideal winter getaway for families, or for romance.
My daughter and I recently drove through Midway, Utah and I pointed to the outdoor ice rink where we skated last winter. She said, “That was SO fun! When can we do it again?”
Our evening at Midway Ice Rink was memorable because it was my 7-year-old son's first time on ice skates and my 10-year-old daughter's second time. It was the first time any of us had skated outdoors.
I love giving my children opportunities to try new things because it gives them experience and confidence. We don't ice skate often, but I hope that this experience will encourage my children to try ice skating again, and be open to other new experiences.
We were all really wobbly at the beginning of the evening. My son used a stabilizer until he figured out how to balance on skates. By the end of the evening all of us were skating with a lot more confidence, and that made it more fun.
Another thing I loved about our experience at the Midway Ice Rink was that it was active. We struggle as much as anyone to limit screen time and encourage active play. We were all so excited and engaged in this new activity that television, video games and mobile devices were forgotten.
Add two hours of skating to the swimming and snow tubing that we did on our family weekend in Heber Valley, and we all earned the beautiful brunch buffet at Zermatt Resort on our last morning in Midway.
If you're planning a winter trip to Heber Valley or Park City, the Midway Ice Rink is one of the largest outdoor ice rinks in the state. It is fun in the afternoon or evening and popular with both tourists and locals.
Disclosure: My family was hosted by Midway Ice Rink for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
