Our children return to school today, and while we (sort of) welcome a fresh start and the return of the routine, I can’t help thinking of where I’d rather be during these last warm days of summer.
We visited the Santa Monica Pier during the summer of 2010. After four full days in Disneyland, even our children were ready to see something else in Southern California. My six-year-old daughter dreamed of seeing Hollywood, so we started there and then pointed ourselves toward the beach.
We happened upon Santa Monica Boulevard and followed it through Los Angeles all the way to the ocean. It wasn’t the most efficient route, but as we passed by Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, downtown Los Angeles and a lot of other interesting landmarks, we felt like we had “been there.”
My daughter was the picture of joy as she ran through the waves. These photos of her are some of my favorites from that vacation.
