“Mom, it’s here! IT’S HERE!!! Can I open it now?”
That was the excited phone call I got from my 11-year-old daughter on the day a package from Del Sol arrived on our door step. She had previously spent at least an hour happily browsing the Del Sol website for product samples and then asked me about our order every single day until the package arrived.
Del Sol specializes in clothing, nail polish, sunglasses and other accessories that change color in the sun. In addition to their own beachy designs, they have licensed Disney and Marvel gear, which my kids (and husband) loved. You’ll find Del Sol stores in popular resort destinations throughout the world, often within walking distance of a cruise ship dock. They are fun, interactive places with sun stations, so you can try before you buy.
Of course, you can stock up before your trip at www.delsol.com. That’s where you’ll find the largest assortment of products and sizes. Here are the products we were most excited about, and how they stood up to real-life wear.
Del Sol has a lot of fun tees, tanks and golf shirts to choose from in a range of sizes from 2T to Adult 2XL. Most are a variation on a white tee, and color begins to appear on the design as soon as you walk into the sun.
If you’re between sizes, I recommend ordering up. My daughter is just over five feet tall, with a slender tween figure, and she has no extra room to grow into her fitted Women’s Small tee. I ordered a little big for the rest of us, and am happy with the sizing of those shirts.
I wore my white Del Sol tee for the first time to an outdoor concert and it wasn’t long before I stained it with hot sauce from my food truck fare. My kids’ white Del Sol tees have also needed stain treatment and repeat washing. We had a little trouble with the bright purple sleeves and collar on my daughter’s shirt bleeding onto the white in the washer. The good news is that washing, drying and bleach pens did not damage or shrink our color change tees.
My kids really needed some new sunglasses to protect their eyes during our outdoor outings, so I was happy when they were happy to wear their new Del Sol sunglasses. Del Sol sunglasses for children and adults come in a range of styles, from bright and colorful character glasses to more sophisticated and subtle color change styles.
All of Del Sol’s SOLIZE sunglasses block 100% of UVA and UVB rays and are polarizing to reduce glare. The adult sunglasses also come with a lifetime guarantee. If your SOLIZE glasses are ever lost, stolen or broken, they come with a guarantee code that allows you to get a new pair of glasses for the cost of shipping and handling.
Painted toenails are a must for sandal season, and color change nail polish was the Del Sol product that both my daughter and I were most excited about. Nail polish is fun, and one size truly fits all, so it makes a good gift too. It was tough to narrow down our choices, and we ultimately went with Life’s a Beach, No Foolin’ and Yell-o! We also chose some decals and stencils.
I typically stick with one simple color on my nails, and I love bright, bold shades of polish. I found Life’s a Beach and No Foolin’ to be subtle indoors, and bright outdoors. The stronger the sun, the stronger the color. Yell-o is my favorite because it is sparkly and a little iridescent. I’m a newbie with stencils and decals, and I found them easy and fun to use.
We are having a lot of fun this summer with our Del Sol gear!
